Our recent conference held in October united Christians from all over Canada, aiming to tackle questions around education, moral imagination, AI, and what it means to be human, through the lens of C.S. Lewis' work, The Abolition of Man.
A Gathering of Minds and Hearts
The conference had a variety of attendees, but through our Institute's vision to equip Christians to renew culture in light of faith and reason, it brought together various leaders who share a desire for cultural renewal all across Canada.
The atmosphere of the weekend was charged with hope. In our feedback forms, countless people listed that the conference gave them hope, particularly because of the people attending. Participants exchanged experiences, fostering good discussion on how the ideas of Lewis can be applied practically to renew culture here in Canada.
Exploring Classical Education
A major focus of the conference was classical education. Speakers emphasized the need to return to teaching methods that cultivate methods that draw from the tradition, practice moral reasoning, and lead to truth. Classical education was put forward as the primary exemplar for an education that humanizes.
Attendees left with inspiration, encouragement and practical ideas for implementing goods in their own homes and communities.
The Legacy of C.S. Lewis
C.S. Lewis' The Abolition of Man was the foundational text for the conference.
In preparation for the conference, a number of people led book studies through our Institute's model and assistance, so as to help appreciate the conference at a deeper level. We gathered over 30 book groups in preparation for the conference coast to coast.
Cardinal Thomas Collins
We are so thankful that Cardinal Collins joined us as our Keynote speaker. Beyond adding to the intellectual depth of the weekend, Cardinal Collins truly brought a pastoral presence. He wholeheartedly encouraged people to support the amazing work of our Institute. He encouraged those attending to continue to put their trust and faith in Christ and keep up the work of renewing culture. He celebrated Mass for us on Friday and Saturday. The largest piece of positive feedback that we received for the conference was how much people loved Mass and having Cardinal Collins. We are so thankful.
Cardinal Collins, we keep you in prayer and thank you for your continued prayers as well.
Looking Ahead
Reflecting on the success of the October 2025 conference, it is clear that the conversations ignited here will continue to resonate and inspire good works in the coming months and years.
Plans are already underway for our next Renewing Culture Conference, and we are so excited for more people to participate.
Final Thoughts
The First Renewing Culture Conference was a success.
As we enjoy the final months of 2025, we can take the lessons learned from our first conference and the friendships made with us into the future as we work to renew culture. Together, we can strive to raise virtuous youth, embrace classical education, and renew culture.
By doing so, we can ensure that C.S. Lewis' legacy continues to guide and inspire us as we face the challenges of our time.
Upcoming Journal
Shortly, we plan to publish the first issue of our journal, a fruit of this conference. We look forward to sharing it with you! You can reserve your copy here.
