Leading Newman Scholars discuss the impact of Newman as Newman becomes a Doctor of the Church

On November 1st, Pope Leo XIV will declare St. John Henry Cardinal Newman a Doctor of the Church. In honour of Cardinal Newman and this momentous day, the Gregory the Great Institute hosted a webinar with some leading Newman scholars on Newman’s new status.

We were pleased to have Dr. Paul Shrimpton join us from Oxford, a prolific author on all things Newman. His latest book, The Most Dangerous Man in England: Newman and the Laity, was recently published by Word on Fire.

We were also joined by Dr. Donald Graham, an associate professor of systematic and pastoral theology at St. Augustine’s Seminary in Toronto. He has taught for years in the areas of the Trinity, Christ, the Church, and is an expert on Newman’s view of conscience.

Dr. Topping hosted the webinar, attributes his own conversion partially to Newman,  and recently published a book on Newman entitled, Thinking as Though God Exists: Newman on Evangelizing the “Nones” - with endorsements from Cardinal Collins and George Weigel.

If you did not have time to make it to the Zoom webinar, we are delighted to invite you to watch it right here on YouTube.
